Today, 8 June 2026, we celebrate World Oceans Day – a reminder of the vital role our oceans play in regulating the climate, supporting biodiversity, and sustaining life on Earth.
To mark the occasion, we are proud to support the Global Clean the Ocean Project through our sustainability partner ClimatePartner.
Every year, millions of tonnes of plastic waste find their way into our oceans, threatening marine ecosystems and the communities that depend on them. In many parts of the world, limited waste management infrastructure makes it challenging to prevent plastic pollution from reaching waterways and coastlines.
The Global Clean the Ocean Project helps address this challenge by supporting initiatives that prevent plastic waste from entering the ocean. These efforts contribute to healthier marine environments and help protect one of the planet's most important climate regulators. The ocean absorbs approximately 25% of global CO₂ emissions and more than 90% of the excess heat generated by the greenhouse effect, making its protection more important than ever.
As part of our sustainability offering, we continue to recommend this project as one of our global offsetting initiatives, enabling our customers to support both climate action and ocean protection.
Together, we can help keep our oceans cleaner for future generations.
Happy World Oceans Day from Bertling!
