Middle East – Strait of Hormuz Update

23 April 2026

Our teams are closely monitoring the situation following reports on 22 April 2026, of a significant escalation in the Strait of Hormuz. International news  have reported that several vessels have come under fire, resulting in "severe damage".

This latest development underscores the extreme volatility of the region and reaffirms that direct, reliable container access through the Strait of Hormuz cannot be assumed at this time.

In light of these persistent risks, we have successfully stabilized and will continue to adhere to the new transport routes established over the past weeks. These routes ensure that your cargo reaches Bahrain, Qatar, and U.A.E without entering the high-risk zone of the Strait.

Our services are now formalized via alternative gateway hubs:

  • Gateway Ports: Salalah, Sohar, Jeddah, and King Abdullah Port.
  • Onward Connections: Final delivery is managed through inland trucking and rail corridors.

The complexity of this new network requires the following handling guidelines:

  • Standard Dry Cargo: Remains our most stable offering via these alternative gateways.
  • Special Cargo (Dangerous Goods/OOG): Subject to significant restrictions and may only be available via specific gateways with prior approval.
  • Service Expectations: Predictability remains reduced for shipments with rigid lead times or strict cold-chain requirements.

Under the current circumstances, a reopening of the Strait is not expected in the near term. We will continue to operate through these alternative gateways until a safe and reliable passage for direct Gulf services is re-established.

Please be aware that even once a reopening occurs, we anticipate it will take several weeks before operations return to a normal cadence. The process of clearing vessel backlogs and repositioning equipment will require a phased recovery period.

We recommend coordinating closely with your local representative for all upcoming bookings. Thank you for your continued trust and partnership as we navigate these operational realities together.
