Factors to Consider for a Safe Bulk Liquid transportation

Transporting bulk liquids safely requires careful consideration of three major factors: 1. volume and weight requirements 2. pumps or compressors 3. temperature requirements. To ensure successful and safe transport, it is crucial to communicate and plan for these factors with the carrier.

The volume and weight requirements determine the tank trailer size and the number of trailers needed. The weight of the tank trailer is important, as the gross weight of any commercial vehicle should not exceed 80,000 lbs/36 tons. It is important to never exceed 45,000 lbs/20,4 tons on a truck to avoid accidents and ensure safety.

Pumps and compressors are essential methods for loading and unloading bulk liquids, but caution must be taken when dealing with flammable and corrosive substances. Using the appropriate method is crucial to prevent accidents.

The temperature requirements of bulk liquids should also be considered during transit. Knowing the temperature requirements of bulk liquids is critical for temperature-sensitive materials like oils and molten naphthalene, which can solidify at low temperatures. Communication with the carrier and the use of appropriate equipment like steam heating systems are essential for safely transporting temperature-sensitive chemicals.

Key Questions to Consider for a Safe Transport

To ensure safe transportation of your bulk liquid products, it's important to have a clear understanding of the necessary equipment required. Here are some key questions to consider when determining the optimal equipment for your bulk liquid transport needs:

  • What type of bulk liquid are you transporting?
  • Is your freight classified as hazardous material (hazmat)?
  • Does your product require temperature control during transport?
  • What is the volume of your shipment?
  • Can your loading facility accept center or rear unload trailers?
  • Does the tanker truck require special connectors?
  • Is a pump or compressor necessary for unloading?
  • Is air compressor offload acceptable for your customer?
  • What is the required pressure for unloading the tanker?
  • Does your product require a rubber-lined trailer?
  • Are there any restrictions on the prior contents of the tanker?
  • Will you require a dropped trailer?
  • Do you need any additional hoses for loading or unloading?
  • What are the pre and post-wash requirements for the equipment?

By providing a clear answer to these questions, you can ensure that the carrier or freight forwarder has a full understanding of your needs, leading to the safe and successful transport of bulk liquids.
