Consignment/Consignor/Consignee

Consignment is when goods are handed over to another party to store or sell, while the original owner keeps ownership until the goods are sold. This is commonly used in auctions, shipping, goods transfers, or when selling items through a consignment store.

Consignor is the person, company, or organization that sends or ships the goods. The consignor is typically the owner of the cargo at the point of dispatch and is responsible for arranging the shipment.

Consignee is the person, company, or organization to whom the goods are shipped. In shipping and international trade, the consignee is the designated recipient of the cargo and is formally responsible for receiving the goods upon arrival. Depending on the shipment terms, the consignee may also be responsible for customs clearance, import procedures, and final delivery arrangements.
