Bertling celebrates groundbreaking ceremony as important milestone in construction of future headquarters

We recently held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on our new head office, which is an important moment in our company’s 160-year history. Senior executives, project partners, valued construction workers and employees gathered to celebrate the completion of the building's foundation.

Klaus Hadaschik, the project manager for the new building, opened the ceremony with an emotional welcome speech, emphasising the importance of the new building in promoting innovation, collaboration and long-term growth. The new headquarters will be a state-of-the-art building incorporating modern architecture, sustainable design features, and advanced technologies to support an efficient, future-ready workplace.

"Bertling’s new headquarters is more than just a building - it’s a symbol of our company’s commitment to progress, our people, and the customers we serve,” Klaus said during his opening remarks. “This marks the beginning of a bold new chapter in our journey”, Klaus continued.

After speeches by representatives from the architecture office and the construction company, three children, the offspring of Julia and Hendrik Bulmahn, bricked a time capsule containing the building plans, the latest edition of the Hamburger Abendblatt and a letter to the future into a brick wall, which will become part of the building walls.

This drew applause from the attendees, reflecting the collective optimism surrounding the project. The emotional ceremony was followed by delicious finger food and cold and hot drinks for all guests throughout the autumn midday and afternoon.

Construction is scheduled for completion in Q1 2027, with Bertling’s Shipping, Logistics, Holding and IT Division teams expected to move into the new head office shortly thereafter.

As construction continues and the building takes shape, we will share progress updates on important milestones.
