The successful applicant will be involved with:

The Project Manager, Specialized Cargo is focused on providing transportation solutions, managing the development of cost-effective solutions, planning and executing high risk and dimensional shipments and comprehensive management of sustained large scale projects, typically via road, rail or barge.

  • Manage the Request for Pricing (RFP) process from beginning to end
  • Target key carriers to participate in the bidding process, analyze results, negotiate rates, secure capacity, implement, and support the appropriate operation teams
  • Identify subcontractors who will fit shipping opportunities presented by both our existing customer base as well as new business opportunities
  • Administer Request for Quotes (RFQs) including generating, distributing, tracking and analyzing carrier documents for client bids
  • Organize and plan tasks allowing time to ensure completion of all projects
  • Interact with internal departments on project planning, continuous improvements and collaborative efforts including exploring unique transportation solutions for our customers
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to the executive management team and customer
  • Summarize periodic project status and prepare reports for departmental and executive review
  • Manage and maintain existing contracts to ensure carrier compliance
  • Identify trends of excess carrier capacity and work to reverse these opportunities with business development by identifying shippers with transportation needs
  • Populate data tables for analysis of carrier rates to review all charges
  • Create and monitor return of carrier rate contracts
  • Model data to facilitate fact-based decisions
  • Analyze shipping characteristics along with rates for cost savings opportunities and/or decrease in expenses
  • Serve as an interface with the carrier community regarding performance, negotiating rates and agreements and driving continuous improvements
  • Assist in other departments as workload may dictate, or help is needed
  • Ensures all carrier authority, contracts, insurance and safety ratings are in compliance with corporate goals
  • Willingness to travel and do site visits if necessary
  • Other duties as required and assigned

The successful applicant will have/be:

  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and co-workers.
  • Strong follow-up skills with the ability to manage non-negotiable timelines in a high volume environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manual.
  • Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities at once.
  • Undergraduate degree preferred major or significant coursework in transportation, logistics, marketing, or finance a plus.
  • Significant experience in project logistics industry.
  • Must be a self-starter, and have the ability to communicate and interface effectively with all levels of the hub organization, its customers, and carriers in a manner that consistently produces results.
  • Strong organizational skills are necessary for this position.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to use various analytical tools to support hub offices in projects. High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and project management skills required.
