ASPAC ABC Compliance Forums 2017
Strengthen the ability to combat bribery and corruption
The subject of bribery and corruption is a very sensitive one for client companies, service providers and authorities. Large value capital projects in any area of the world are at risk from unscrupulous individuals or organisations in positions of influence and control offering advantage in return for personal gain to the detriment of the project. Combatting bribery and corruption of this kind is an ongoing battle for all companies that operate in large scale projects.
Only through constant commitment and effort by all parties can progress in compliance be made. Bertling is committed to playing its part in helping improve the ethics and compliance standards of the industry through initiatives to advance its own performance and establish an environment within the industry that fights bribery and corruption.
As part of these efforts, Dr Chris Brooks, Bertling’s Head of Compliance, has just completed an intensive tour of the Asia Pacific region to conduct anti-bribery and corruption forums in Singapore, Jakarta (Indonesia) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). The forums were arranged by Bertling to encourage and foster trust and cooperation between client, supplier and employee, as a means for stakeholders to strengthen their ability to combat bribery and corruption and to broaden their sphere of influence.
Stakeholders were invited to take part in the half day forums that covered topics such as regional compliance legislation and its enforcement bodies; the building blocks of an effective compliance framework and what practical measures can be taken to combat bribery and corruption.
Bertling CEO Matthias Oehmicke demonstrated his personal support for the forums by attending the first event in Singapore.
In the forums, Chris communicated the purpose and method behind Bertling’s ethics and compliance policies and procedures through discussing practical ways that stakeholders could make a difference in the fight against bribery and corruption, focusing on building trust and cooperation between partners and supporting each other’s efforts to meet global compliance requirements.
Bertling and Chris in particular would like to thank those clients, suppliers and employees that attended the forums for their engagement in the forums and their commitment to fighting bribery and corruption.
The Asia Pacific forums are part of an ongoing program and was arranged following the success of similar forums held in London and Atyrau (Kazakhstan) in 2014 and 2017 respectively.
The forums form part of Bertling’s wider program of ethics and compliance established to combat bribery and corruption in the industry.
